In terms of the world test championship ranking, India has faced a major setback due to the defeat. They have been defeated after 12 years on their home ground with a clean sweep. So, now they will have to win at least four matches in order to qualify for the world test championship final.
However, India has been successful in winning the series in the last two tours. They defeated Australia in the 2018 and 2021 series. In the first win, Cheteshwar Pujara was the key factor.
The former coach also added that it will be vital for India to perform well in the first two tests. As it will help them bounce back from the major setback of the last series.
Additionally, Virat was not able to perform well in the series. So, he will have to perform at his level best to ensure India a win. In the last BGT tour, he was able to take the team home as a captain. So, it will be vital to see how he performs in the upcoming series.
Ravi also added that the coach will have to keep the team in a positive frame of mind. Then, it will be helpful for the players to perform on the field.
In addition, Shastri also said that India will have to put the negative results behind them. It is because conditions will be different in Australia. The conditions will also be suitable for the batsmen, once they settle in. So, it will be a totally different situation for the team.
Apart from all of the above, India will also miss Rohit in the first test. He has recently been blessed with a baby boy. So, he will be spending some time with the family. In the meantime, Bumrah will be the captain of the squad. So, it will also be interesting to see how Jusprit will handle the pressurizing situation against the kangaroos. In the squad, Krishnan has been given an opportunity to perform against the Australians. In addition, India also has reserve players in the form of Khaleel, Navdeep, and Mukesh. In the end, the team will face off against an Australian team, which has the likes of Cummins as captain and Travis Head as key players. They will also be helped by Steve Smith in the batting department along with Mitchel Marsh.
